  • Agreed value on purchase price or valuation valid for five years – We can insure your motor caravan on an agreed value based on the purchase price of the vehicle or a written valuation. What is agreed value? Agreed value is the amount we agree as the sum insured for your vehicle and what will be paid to you in the event of a total loss claim. This amount is always shown in the insurance policy schedule. The other basis of settlement is “indemnity” or “market” value, this is an item current value allowing for its age and condition immediately before the loss or damage happened.
  • Excess – A standard $500 excess applies. On most vehicles, there is no excess on glass.
  • Open drivers policy (who can drive your motor caravan?) – Anybody over the age of 25 years can drive your vehicle however they need to: Have your permission to be driving. Hold a valid and appropriate drivers licence for the applicable class of vehicle. Please note that any relevant driving history i.e. traffic convictions, speeding fines etc. would need to be disclosed to us. If you are in doubt about what information needs to be disclosed please check with us.
  • Hazardous substances emergency costs are covered – We will cover the insured for any charge that the NZ Fire Service is authorised to make in respect of a Hazardous Substances Emergency in connection with the insured vehicle during the period of insurance regardless of whether the insured vehicle has sustained loss.
  • If your motor caravan is your permanent form of residence – Covi NZMCA Insurance offers temporary accommodation costs of up $700 a week for up to seven weeks. Covi NZMCA Insurance also has a contents policy to cover your personal effects when your motor caravan is your permanent place of residence.
  • Accident clean-up costs are covered – The policy covers reasonable costs incurred in salvaging any load carried by the insured vehicle following a loss up to a maximum of $5,000 for any one accident.
  • Builders risk to cover re-building and refurbishing – We will cover your motor caravan and materials whilst undergoing refurbishment up to the sum insured nominated and on your insurance schedule.
  • Towing and salvage costs/ towing to repairer – Following a loss we will pay for the reasonable costs incurred in the salvage, recovery or disposal of the insured vehicle. In the event of mechanical breakdown of the insured vehicle we will pay up to $500 (subject to prior consent) per breakdown to deliver the vehicle to the nearest suitable repairer up to a maximum of $750 per insurance period.
  • Returning home cover – In the event of a claim for loss or damage to the insured vehicle we will pay the reasonable costs incurred for transportation and travel expenses of the insured and/or their family permanently residing with them to their normal place of residence within N.Z up to $1,500 during any one insurance period.
  • Weight damage is covered – You are covered for damage that your vehicle causes to someone else’s property (including a road) caused by the weight of the vehicle (see the policy wording for the applicable excess and full cover details).
  • Death by accident and funeral expenses cover – If the insured dies as a result of an accident covered by this policy we will pay $5,000 to the insured’s estate regardless of any other insurance provided the death occurs within 90 days of the date of the accident.
  • Automatic cover for permanent fixtures and fittings – Including Furnishings, Awnings, Generators (up to 3.75KW), TVs, Radios, CBs, Radar detectors, GPS, Fire extinguishers.
  • Hidden gradual damage cover up to $2,000 – This covers hidden gradual damage caused by water which accidentally leaks or overflows from any: Window, Door, Toilet system, Shower system, Internal water pipe, Internal waste disposal pipe, Internal water tank, or internal waste tank permanently installed in your vehicle. This is an exclusive Covi NZMCA Insurance policy feature designed especially for motor caravans.
  • Free trailer cover up to $1,500 – The policy provides up to $1,500 for loss or damage to a trailer not otherwise insured.
  • Modified vehicles are covered as long as they meet legal requirements – The insured vehicle may be modified from the manufacturers specifications in the conversion to a Motor Caravan in such a way as to comply with all the relevant Regulations issued by the Land Transport Authority.
  • Cover up to $10,000 for other contents – Items such as bedding, linen, cooking utensils, outdoor furniture and the like that are normally used in connection with a Motor Caravan and are not otherwise insured (a limit of $2,000 per item applies).

  • If you are buying a brand new motorhome or caravan from a dealer (you are the first registered owner) and the vehicle is written off in the first 12 months (3 years for a caravan), we will buy you a brand new replacement motorhome or caravan equal in specification
  • All our policies are Agreed Value and this lasts for up to 5 years. If you already own your motorhome we can issue you an Agreed Value policy where the agreed value is valid for 3 years. Even after 3 years we can re-agree the value for a further 3 years, and then for another three years after that and so on
  • Everything that is permanently fitted to your vehicle, or sold with your vehicle (or would be sold with your vehicle) is included in our standard insurance. (Not all companies do this, and some companies treat items you’d sell with your vehicle as contents.) We then include an additional insurance for your personal contents that you take with you in your vehicle. This amount can be increased in cases where, for example, you live in your vehicle.

Included free in your Star CamperCare policy is Journey On Roadside Assistance. It provides you with nationwide, 24/7 breakdown cover so you’ll never be far from help when you need it. Our New Zealand-based customer service team are available to you 24 hours a day, 7-days a week to help you with breakdowns, answer your questions and assist with any insurance claims. Your free Journey On Roadside Assistance membership comes in a couple of flavours, depending on your type of RV. You’ll either receive our Journey On Caravan/Fifth Wheeler or Journey On Motorhome membership.Journey On Caravan/Fifth Wheeler membership includes:

* Emergency towing to the nearest place of safety, up to $150 including GST per callout. This should be enough, however, callouts at 2 pm will be a lot cheaper than say at 2 am on a public holiday. Either way, if towage costs look like they will exceed $150 our Journey On team will proactively work on your behalf to reduce costs and keep you informed.
